Description:
Mozart’s String Trio in E-flat is one of the gems of the Classical chamber music canon. Written toward the end of his life, the Divertimento shows Mozart at the height of his compositional prowess. It is full of his trademark joy and wit, though also quite profound in its slower movements.
Skipping over the 1800s entirely, the twentieth-century works on this program represent two strikingly different reactions composers had to the bygone Romantic era. The Gideon Klein string trio feels "hyper-romantic," as he takes romantic voice leading and harmonies a step further, creating exceptionally passionate melodies and pained dissonances that pull at the listener with each note. Schoenberg, by contrast, rejects tonality, separating himself from traditional harmony and using large leaps, dissonances, and rhythmic textures to explore enticing, unusual sound worlds.
ABOUT:
Praised for his “evocative, impassioned” playing and “remarkable security,” (NY Concert Review, Shostakovich Concerto No. 1) cellist Ari Evan’s performing career spans through North America and Europe. He has soloed with the Lviv Philharmonic, Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, Vienna Concert Orchestra, Greenwich Village Orchestra, and Pegasus: The Orchestra. Ari has performed as guest cellist with the Rolston String Quartet, Quatuor MONA, Aeolus Quartet, and Flux Quartet, and has world-premiered chamber music works by Augusta Reed Thomas, Aaron J Kernis, Philip Lasser, and Pieter Schuermans. He has served as guest principal with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and has toured with Orpheus and the East Coast Chamber Orchestra (ECCO).
The youngest of four string-playing children, violinist Abigail Fayette hails from a musical family in Long Island, New York. She has performed with renowned artists such as Jonathan Biss, Brett Dean, Kim Kashkashian, and others. As an active touring musician, Ms. Fayette’s performances have taken her all over the world with appearances spanning across the United States, Europe, and Asia. She has toured with Musicians from Marlboro, The Knights, Curtis Chamber Orchestra, and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Currently, she is a member of the Grammy-nominated Catalyst Quartet and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, where she was named Artistic Director in 2023.
Laura Liu, a native of Miami, Florida known for “sound deep, warm, and consistently musical”currently lives in NYC studying with Cynthia Phelps and Misha Amory at The Juilliard School (Classical Voice America). Liu’s love of collaboration has led her to pursue a life in chamber music. In the summer of 2026, Liu appeared as an artist at Marlboro Music Festival, Moritzburg Festival, Tippet Rise Art Center, and Rome Chamber Music Festival. Her summer performance of Mozart’s G-minor Piano Quartet alongside Mitsuko Uchida, Stephanie Zyzak, and Elena Ariza was described by the New York Times as “unerringly natural.”
The Forest Hills Chamber Music Series was founded in 2019 by cellist Ari Evan and Cantor Emily Wigod Pincus of the Reform Temple of Forest Hills. Taking place at the synagogue Ari grew up attending, FHCMS aims to highlight Jewish composers of the past 150 by pairing their works with more standard 18th and 19th century masterworks of a similar instrumentation. By showcasing composers new and old, famous and lesser known, Ari and Cantor Pincus hope to connect with the greater Forest Hills community through music and faith, in hopes of broadening their artistic horizons. This collaboration with The BLANC marks a very important milestone for FHCMS, as its first concert to take place outside of the Reform Temple of Forest Hills!
Pulsing Sound is THE BLANC’s cross-disciplinary concert series, curated by Sofia Ouyang and conceived as a platform for music, experimentation, and interdisciplinary exchange. “Pulsing” evokes sound in continuous motion—passing between bodies, instruments, spaces, and artistic forms, changing and gathering new possibilities as it moves. Across intimate solo performances, chamber music, electronics, film, movement, and multimedia, the series brings together emerging and established artists to explore new forms of listening and artistic encounter.
