Puerto Rican Bomba: Piquete Bootcamp, Richmond, VA
About this Event
We are excited to bring you another collaboration with Kadencia and Claves Unidos in Richmond!
This workshop is designed to deepen the understanding of Bomba by exploring the art of piquetes—the improvised conversation between dancer and drummer that makes Bomba such a unique and vibrant tradition. You'll explore movement, musicality, expression, and the cultural significance behind this living Afro-Puerto Rican tradition in a welcoming and supportive environment.
- Wear comfortable workout or dance clothes and athletic shoes. This is an active workshop with both low- and high-intensity movement, so come prepared to move, sweat, and have fun! Don't forget your water bottle. 💧
- Street parking is available throughout the area. We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early to allow time to find parking and check in before the workshop begins.
Space is limited! Reserve your spot today and join us for an afternoon of learning, movement, and connection through the rhythms of Puerto Rican Bomba.
This is an immersive 90-minute Puerto Rican Bomba Dance intense workshop led by Isha M. Renta López, founder of Semilla Cultural, who brings nearly 20 years of experience studying, performing, teaching, and preserving Puerto Rican Bomba. Joining her will be experienced percussionists Maurice "Tito" Sanabria and Will Roman of Kadencia, along with Kevin LaMarr Jones of Claves Unidos—artists who have helped cultivate a vibrant Bomba and Afro-Caribbean music and dance community throughout the Richmond area. We look forward to dancing with you in Richmond! 🌱🪘
