Public Opening Day of Clare Rojas: Returning

Bringing together over sixty works of painting and sculpture spanning various scales and subject matter, this is the first exhibition of the work of Clare Rojas (b. 1976) in her hometown of Columbus. Rojas is a painter, sculptor, and musician who has gained critical acclaim for her decades-long career, most of which she spent in the San Francisco Bay Area. Prompted by the artist’s recent move back to Ohio, this exhibition takes as its point of departure the cyclical nature of life and how it informs both the content and form of her art. Rojas often returns to formal motifs in her work, portraying how self-realization and caretaking evolve over time. While these subjects are quite personal, they are also archetypal. The show thus invites both introspection and a spirit of community as we ponder our own relationship to the world around us. Rojas’s work inspired by the philosophy of ecofeminism is especially poignant in its depiction of nature as a source of wisdom, encouraging environmental stewardship at this pivotal moment in climatic history.
