To the citizens of Tate County & surrounding areas:I will hold a hearing at the Mississippi Capital on September 23 at 1:30 p.m. to discuss the current state of the Arkabutla Lake Dam. We will hear from the US Army Corps of Engineers who will present an overview and an update on the structural failures of the dam and the impact to the underlying Coldwater River and its tributaries, including the plans and costs for repairing the lake dam and river system, stabilizing water collection, minimizing flooding, potential impacts to surrounding lands and how this will affect future plans for Mississippi’s additional flood control structures adjacent to the Delta, (i.e. Sardis, Enid and Grenada) along with any other related topics and concerns. This will be a great opportunity for you to learn more about this issue that is important to so many people directly from the individuals who are responsible for crafting the plan of repair and ensuring that all of our flood control structures continue to provide needed safety and protection to our people and our property.
Although Arkabutla Lake is located mostly in Tate County, the effects of the dam failure touch a large landmass in Mississippi. Many of you have expressed interest in this topic and I want to make sure that as many people as possible receives this invitation so that you can make plans to attend. Thank you.
