A public domain movie viewing event, the 2nd Thursday of every month.Come grab soup, sandwich, snack....or of course a drink...and settle in.
This month will be "Manos: The Hands of Fate", 1966, directed by Harold P. Warren, starring Tom Neyman, John Reynolds, and Diane Adelson. IMDB says: "A family gets lost on the road and stumbles upon a hidden, underground, devil-worshiping cult led by the fearsome Master and his servant, Torgo."
Each year on "Public Domain Day" (01-Jan), loads of new creative works enter the public domain, meaning free to use for basically any purposes (such as group viewing at a business!). Things can enter public domain for various reasons, usually age or copyright expiry. Sometimes it's an accident by the production, not posting the right copyright info at the beginning of the films, things like that! It's a massive list of entertainment that is better experienced than forgotten.
Duke University has a department dedicated to study of the public domain, and their website is actually pretty interesting to peruse. Definitely check out the comic books they've published on topics of copyright !!!
