In partnership with the Town of Chapin, the Crooked Creek Art League is pleased to announce the public Dedication Ceremony and unveiling for the newest public art installation and addition to the Chapin Arts Trail.

The public is invited to attend the Dedication Ceremony on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 11am in front of The Shack at 1250 Chapin Road in Chapin, SC. This is a free event.
The artwork, titled “Talk of the Town” is a permanent addition to the Chapin Art Trail. The artwork is a large scale mural covering the entire side of a building in downtown Chapin. This fun and playful interactive mural is inspired by local folklore and history found in the Chapin/Lake Murray Community. It was painted in very durable high quality and weather resistant water based paint. The design and finish were both done by artist Alica Leeke. Visitors are invited to take selfies with the mural and share them with the tags: #showusyourselfies, #AliciaLeekeContemporaryAmericanPainter, @theshackChapin, and #bigfoot. Crooked Creek Art League (CCAL) and the Town of Chapin are committed to infusing the area with exciting public art. The goal is to shine a light on the vibrant arts scene in Chapin and surrounding lake communities.

About the Artist:
Alicia Leeke, a native South Carolinian is a contemporary American fine art painter, visual arts educator and an Accredited Mural Artist. Her travels to paint landscapes led her to produce a body of beautiful abstract paintings inspired by nature’s ever-changing scenery. Leeke compares a series of art in a body of work to that of multiple product lines in sales. This means she has paintings produced in a series over time including abstract textural landscapes, impressionistic landscapes, French cityscapes, and an abstract body of work based on plankton. Alicia Leeke is best known for her brightly painted public art murals and other public art projects that range from murals to permanent installations of animals. Mural and project inspiration is site-specific and varies based on the needs of the project. Often a public art project needs to blend into the facility, make a bold impact statement or portray a theme. Some of the themes in her work include nature, people and animals.

About the Chapin Art Trail:
An easy way to check out ALL the great art around Chapin, the self-guided trail seeks to stir the public imagination and sense of creativity as well as beautify the community with public art displays created by local artists. The trail includes currently installed public art pieces and galleries throughout the greater Chapin area.
One of the best parts of visiting an area is finding all the wonderful things that make it unique. Artwork is a vital part of that and enriches our daily lives. Murals, statuary, gardens and sculptures make places more interesting and memorable. Public works of art throughout the greater Chapin area are mapped out on the web at crookedcreekart.org/chapinarttrail and in other promotional materials designed to enable citizens to better access and appreciate the art. You are encouraged to participate in an ongoing self-guided tour of the area and its many works of public art. You can go in any order and view as many as you like during your visit. You are invited to play along by hunting through Chapin to see if you can find all the great art on display on the Chapin Art Trail. Complete the online Scavenger Hunt Form. Turn your completed form in online to be entered into a quarterly drawing to win prizes. Winners will be notified by email.

About the Crooked Creek Art League:
Crooked Creek Art League (CCAL) is located in Chapin, South Carolina. Its more than 160 members, from Chapin and the surrounding lake communities, include painters of all mediums, photographers, sculptors and mixed media artists. All are welcome. CCAL is chartered as a charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of federal tax law. As, a dynamic non-profit organization, CCAL depends on its members, business partners and donors to help it continue to grow the visual arts in our area in many varied ways. The league provides on-location art exhibits at local businesses, associate juror training and workshops. It also hosts one of the largest juried art shows in the Midlands each year and, when possible, provides arts supply funding to local schools.
