About this Event
This is a short walk to look at potential spaces for biodiversity improvement on Terry Avenue and Knavesmire Allotment Corner, working with City of York Council, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, and, hopefully, you!
Knavesmire Allotment Corner is near the racecourse, and lies just off the walk/ cycle path from York to Bishopthorpe village, between the path and Bustardthorpe Allotments.
We would like to know what YOU think about our ideas so far to improve the biodiversity of these spaces.
You'll learn more about biodiversity, share your own knowledge, meet lovely like-minded people, and enjoy a pleasant walk along green routes!
Practicalities
Meet at 12:30pm outside the main Rowntree Park gates on Terry Avenue (the large ornate iron gates between the Millennium Bridge and the Parkβs car park entrance). Look for the people in purple York Bike Belles vests!
To visit both sites we will be walking between them, they are around a mile apart so we will be covering a distance of 2 miles during the session. It's a walk of just over an hour in total at a steady pace.
There are toilets in the Park, one set by the Terry Avenue entrance, and another in the Park cafe.
We aim to make all our activities accessible for people of all ages and abilities and life situations. We ask that you self-assess your own capability to join the activity. Please get in touch if you need additional support, and weβll do our best to meet your needs.
Please check the weather forecast beforehand and wear suitable clothing. Do not attend if you are unwell. Bring any personal Medic*tion, and walk and mud-friendly shoes.
Please travel to the activity by sustainable transport (walking, cycling or public transport) if you can. All start points are easily accessible by bus or bike. Check out York's Cycle Routes and Bus Information. There's bike parking near the starting point.
Finally, email [email protected] if you have any questions. Please note you are welcome to turn up on the day.
Take the Green Route
Take the Green Route! is an exciting NEW project for people and nature in York.
Check out our Autumn Nature Programme of Nature Walks, Rides, Workshops and Socials. You'll get closer to nature, feel well, get some gentle exercise, make new friends, have fun learning, and enjoy life more!
Take the Green Route! is made possible with the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, this two-year project will support a wide range of local people to enjoy nature-friendly walking, wheeling and cycling lifestyles across York.
Finally, can you help our work continue? Our activities are offered free to York residents. We rely on donations and grants to fund our work towards a healthy, green and kind York. Donate here.
