A new gateway sculpture is currently being installed at Five Points Park and Plaza in Norfolk, VA at the intersection of Norview Ave. and Sewells Point Rd. Grass Dome, by Sean Orlando of Engineered Artworks is a 22-ft in diameter immersive sculpture, created to serve as a gathering place, and an interactive space for creative contemplation within the park and the busy Five Points neighborhood.
This placemaking piece creates a gateway into Five Points Park and Plaza, the new public greenspace adjacent to the Five Points intersection. Grass Dome reflects local grasses, as well as the nearby urban form of the circular intersection.
The sculpture simulates growing grass blades and forms an open canopy over the pathway at the southeast entrance to the park. Highly polished interior blades have a reflective quality to mirror objects within the dome.
This project was commissioned by Norfolk Arts and the community to be a central feature of the new park.
You're invited to meet the artist during a free and open to the public, artwork dedication on July 27, 5:30pm at Five Points Park and Plaza. Celebrate afterwards from 6-9pm during a Norview Paradise Party via Festevents and the City of Norfolk, Parks and Recreation with live music by JuJu Drum, and more.

Engineered Artworks, led by founder Sean Orlando, is a group of artists, designers, fabricators, and engineers that make large-scale art come to life.
