Join us at Garrett's Brewing Co., 1 W Main St Trumansburg Sunday at 7pm.TOPICS THIS WEEK: Wisdom, parenting, reactivity & freedom
1. ICE BREAKER: What's a skill you're working on improving?
2. James 1:5 in the New Testament says,
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God,
who gives generously to all without finding fault,
and it will be given to you."
Have you ever asked God for wisdom?
What was the result?
3. Did you have a "free-range" childhood?
If you are a parent, are or were you more hands on, or
hands off?
How do you find the right balance?
If we were to view God as a parent figure, which path
has God taken with humanity?
What would a different path look like?
4. Viktor Frankl wrote,
"Between stimulus and response there is a space.
In that space is our power to choose our response.
In our response lies our growth and our freedom."
How do you learn to tap into that space, and lessen
your reactivity?
5. The philosopher Albert Camus wrote:
"The only way to deal with an unfree world
is to become so absolutely free that your very existence
is an act of rebellion."
What might this look like, to have one's existence be
an act of rebellion?
6. James 1:25:
"But whoever looks intently into the perfect law
that gives freedom, and continues in it—
not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—
they will be blessed in what they do."
Discuss this notion of "the perfect law that gives freedom."
If law gives freedom, what does it mean to say that
Christ set us free from the law?
