This year we are focused on our Veteran’s Treatment Court (VTC) mentor program. Too often our service men and women return home with invisible wounds such as Post Traumatic Stress, undiagnosed brain injuries, or other trauma they are not equipped to deal with alone. They end up doing things they would not normally do such as abuse drugs or alcohol which leads to criminal activity.
When they get in the court system, they are treated for the crime not the underlying issues of unresolved trauma or untreated medical issues. Our mentor program pairs a military veteran with a veteran in the court system. They stay together for about 18 months, working on a host of issues but most importantly helping that veteran regain their sense of identity.
