Join us for a Psychedelics Book Fair with renowned British Columbia authors in support of the EXPAND Study, organized by MAPS Canada.
About this Event

The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) Canada invites you to the BC Psychedelic Book Fair Fundraiser from 12-4 pm on June 11th, 2023.


Attendees of the Psychedelic Book Fair will have the chance to browse a selection of books on psychedelics and related topics, and get some great deals on psychedelic literature!


The Psychedelic Book Fair fair will showcase five renowned psychedelic authors from British Columbia Dennis McKenna, Mark Haden, Amanda Siebert, Stephen Gray, and Jesse Donaldson who will be in attendance to sell and sign their books, give talks, and chat with attendees.


The event aims to raise funds for MAPS Canada's EXPAND Study. This study will assess legal access to psychedelic medicine in Canada through Health Canada’s Special Access Program, with the goal to ultimately support safe, legal, and equitable access to psychedelic medicines in Canada.


MAPS Canada will be hosting a random draw for a giveaway package worth $100+ for all attendees. The random draw contest rules can be found here.


Tickets in advance or at the door.

General admission tickets are by donation. A $25 book-ticket comes with a book of your choice from the MAPS Canada book collection!


About the Guest Authors

Dennis McKenna, Ph.D.

Dennis McKenna has conducted research in ethnopharmacology for over 40 years. He is a founding board member of the Heffter Research Institute and was a key investigator on the Hoasca Project, the first biomedical investigation of ayahuasca. He was part of the original Scientific Strategy Team at Shaman Pharmaceuticals in the early 90s. He is the younger brother of Terence McKenna. From 2000 to 2017, he taught courses on Ethnopharmacology and Plants in Human affairs as an adjunct Assistant Professor in the Center for Spirituality and Healing at the University of Minnesota. In the spring of 2019, in collaboration with colleagues in Canada and the US, he incorporated a new non-profit, the McKenna Academy of Natural Philosophy. In collaboration with colleagues he organized two landmark conferences in 2017 and 2022, the Ethnopharmacologic Search for Psychoactive Drugs (ESPD50.com and ESPD55.com) He emigrated to Canada in the spring of 2019 together with his wife Sheila, and now resides in Abbotsford B.C.

Amanda Siebert

Author, Journalist, Photographer, Host


Amanda Siebert is an award-winning journalist, best-selling author, and podcast host interested in the relationship between health, wellness, and drugs. She is a contributing writer at Forbes, DailyOm, and Healing Maps, and has bylines in over a dozen other publications. Her first book, The Little Book of Cannabis: How Marijuana Can Improve Your Life (2018), was published on the same day cannabis was legalized in Canada. In 2019, it was named the #1-selling cannabis book in the country. In Psyched: 7 Cutting-Edge Psychedelics Changing the World (2022), she breaks down the history, science, and cultural and medical uses of seven psychedelic drugs. She is also the host of the podcast Ibogaine Uncovered. In 2022, she received a Cosmic Sister Emerging Voices Award and was awarded Reporter of the Year at the second annual Microdose Awards. More recently she was awarded Psychedelic Journalist of the Year at the 2023 Cannadelic Awards.

Jesse Donaldson

Jesse Donaldson is an author, journalist, and TV producer whose work has appeared in such publications as VICE, The Tyee, Megaphone, and the Calgary Herald. He is the author of four books, including THIS DAY IN VANCOUVER (2013), LAND OF DESTINY (2019), and FOOL'S GOLD (2021).

His most recent book, THE ACID ROOM: THE PSYCHEDELIC TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF HOLLYWOOD HOSPITAL, co-authored with Erika Dyck, was recently shortlisted for both a Saskatchewan and a BC Book Prize. He lives in Mt Pleasant with his partner, and Ralph, the world's stinkiest dog.

Stephen Gray

How Psychedelics Can Help Save the World, Visionary and Indigenous Voices Speak Out

Stephen Gray is a teacher and writer on spiritual subjects and sacramental medicines. He has worked extensively with Tibetan Buddhism, the Native American Church, and with entheogenic medicines. He is also a conference and workshop organizer, leader, and speaker. The editor of Cannabis and Spirituality, he lives in Vancouver.

Mark Haden

Mark Haden is a major figure in the field of psychedelic medicines, with a long list of past and present activities and responsibilities in this field. Among—and beyond—these, he is the Clinical Supervisor for the Psychedelic Treatment Program at Qi Integrated Health and the Vice President of Business Development at Clearmind Medicine.

Mark served as the Executive Director for MAPS Canada for 10 years and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia School of Population and Public Health. Mark has published numerous articles in respected Journals, has presented at conferences and training events in many countries, and was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013 for drug policy reform work. Mark also has a well-deserved reputation as an exciting speaker who never fails to engage and surprise audiences.
