About this Event
This one-hour tour of Providence’s industrial waterfront is led by Angel Ramos, Fatema Maswood and Monica Huertas, who will discuss the community impacts of pollution caused by the port in South Providence and Washington Park, and the critical work they are doing to address local issues of environmental justice on this site.
Angel Ramos is a student at College Unbound and Program Manager at the People’s Port Authority, an environmental justice community organization led by residents of South Providence and Washington Park aiming to stop the construction and expansion of the fossil fuel industry in the Port of Providence.
Fatema Maswood (they/she) is an architectural and landscape designer, researcher, and educator. They study water systems and infrastructure, seek out historic and hidden hydrologies, share seeds and free educational materials, and work with bioregional plants and materials. Fatema is an Assistant Professor in the Landscape Architecture department at the Rhode Island School of Design.
This tour is part of a new PPS series that invites neighborhood residents to share their community’s stories.
