Providence Preservation Society's Preservation Awards Walk

Last November, Providence Preservation Society recognized thirteen preservation and adaptive reuse projects that were completed in Providence between 2022 and 2024. Awards went to projects across the city in South Providence, Valley, Olneyville, Mount Pleasant, Downtown, College Hill and Fox Point. They included single-family homes, places of worship, educational buildings, legacy and new community businesses, and re-envisioned mills, as well as an office-to-residential conversion, the conservation of a heritage tree, and a digital reconstruction of a lost neighborhood.

Join us on the morning of Saturday, April 26 for a walk through College Hill and Downtown to visit five of the award-winning projects and hear from project leads about how they came to fruition. The projects visited include Central Congregational Church (296 Angell Street), Stonewall House (22 Benevolent Street), The Studley (86 Weybosset Street), the Seeing Providence Chinatown Project (56 Empire Street), and The Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul (30 Fenner Street).

We will stop at each project site for approximately 20 minutes where we will be joined by a member of each site's project team, including Warren Jagger; Brigida Capicotto, AIA (KITE Architects); Al Buco (Paolino Properties); Jeffrey Yoo Warren; and Pierson Booher, AIA (DBVW Architects).

This is an active urban walk. Please bring water and wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes, and be prepared to be flexible with restroom stops as we will rely on using restrooms en route as needed.

This walk begins at Central Congregational Church (meet at the 24 Diman Place entrance around the corner from the main entrance at 296 Angell Street) and ends at The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul downtown (30 Fenner Street). Participants will find street parking within a few blocks of Central Congregational Church and will need to walk back to their cars, if they drove, at the end of the tour.
