About this Event

Marcel Proust's In Search of Lost Time (also known in English as Remembrance of Things Past) is a monumental, seven-volume novel that Edmund White called, "the most respected novel of the twentieth century." SFSU Professor of Comparative & World Literature, Mark Calkins has led the Proust Seminar at the Mechanics' Institute Library since 2001. In February 2023 the Seminar begins its seventh cycle with Swann's Way. Dr. Calkins will be using the Penguin/Lydia Davis translation, but any translation will serve you well.

The Proust Seminar will be held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month from 5:30 to 6:30pm in the 4th Floor Board Room. The first semester will begin on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, and continue for five months until June 28, 2023.

For each seminar, we reserve the right to cancel at any time and issue a full refund. If you are unable to attend the seminar, please email [email protected] by Wednesday, February 1, 2023, to receive a full refund less any non-refundable ticketing fees which may be applicable. All fees must be paid at the time of registration. After Wednesday, February 1, 2023 no refunds will be issued.
