About this Event
Intellectual property (IP) can often feel like an abstract idea or concept, disconnected from our everyday lives. But in fact, IP can come alive in one of the most universal spaces: food. Think of the stories of immigrant populations who have used family recipes handed down through generations to create a special sauce or an amazing meal—these are examples of trade secrets, trademarks, and, sometimes, even patents. Furthermore, Los Angeles is home to some of the most diverse culinary communities in the U.S.
Michelson IP and the LA Food Policy Council invite you to an event that will explore how IP, food, and culture intersect in a way that is both meaningful and local, highlighting the real-world impact on entrepreneurs. How is this intersection being politicized to the detriment of immigrant communities in LA? How can we be more supportive of immigrant populations in particular? How can they be empowered to utilize IP knowledge so they can share the cuisines and techniques from their home countries and build more profitable businesses?
