Protect What You’ve Built: Estate Planning & Keeping Property in the Family
About this Event
Presented by the Iota Sweethearts, Inc. Raleigh-Durham Professional Chapter and the Bull City G.R.A.C.E. Project community education series. This project is supported by a Community Engagement Mini-Grant from the City of Durham.
What happens to your home, land, and belongings when you die? Join us for a FREE, practical conversation about estate planning, heirs’ property, and protecting your family’s legacy.
You do not have to be wealthy to have an estate—and you do not have to wait until a crisis to start planning.
WORKSHOP 1: PROTECT WHAT YOU’VE BUILT (ESTATE PLANNING, HEIRS' PROPERTY & KEEPING PROPERTY IN THE FAMILY)
This interactive workshop will break down estate planning and heirs’ property in practical, plain language for everyday individuals and families. An estate planning and heirs’ property attorney will guide participants through questions such as:
- What actually happens if I die without a will?
- Do I need an estate plan if I don't consider myself wealthy?
- What basic documents should adults consider having?
- What happens to my home or land after I die?
- What is heirs’ property, and how does it happen?
- Why can family-owned property become difficult to manage after generations?
- What conversations should I be having with my parents, children, siblings, or other relatives?
- What information should my family be able to find if something happens to me?
- What practical steps can I begin taking now to protect my family and property?
Participants will begin building their own G.R.A.C.E. Binder, a practical family preparedness resource that can grow throughout the workshop series. During this session, participants will work on their Legacy & Estate Planning section using worksheets, checklists, and planning tools.
Space is limited, and advance registration is strongly encouraged.
