About this Event
Come celebrate Earth Month with us! Nerd out with Kailey Pascoe and Crispin Nakoa from The MEGA Lab to learn about coral reefs. The MEGA Lab creates 3D maps of coral reefs to understand the environment, identify issues, and inform conservation and management. Meet the MEGA scientists, learn how to make 3D maps, and watch our live-streaming reef camera.
Attendees will be guided through hands-on activities to explore coral reef ecosystems:
MEGA Lab Augmented Reality App-
This activity will provide people with immersive and interactive experiences exploring 3D maps of coral reefs throughout the Hawaiian archipelago and the Pacific.
Underwater Live Stream Camera-
Our live streaming camera captures the secret life of reefs on W. Hawaii. The video provides exciting real-time views of reef creatures living their best life.
3D Model Building-
Small groups will learn how to make 3D models using the MEGA DIY Reef Mapping Kits. Groups will use GoPros and our instructional pamphlet to create 3D models of anything they like (e.g., coffee mugs, plants, tables) and learn how to post them online. This training will have them ready to go out and map the world, and also contribute to our MEGA Millions reef mapping initiative.
