Property Tax Exemption & County Assessor Workshop for Disabled Veterans and Surviving Spouses

Arizona’s property tax exemption rules can be difficult to understand, especially for disabled veterans, surviving spouses, and families trying to determine what applies to their home.
This free workshop is designed to give veterans and surviving spouses direct, practical guidance from the Maricopa County Assessor’s Office.
This workshop will cover:
• Who may qualify for the disabled veteran property tax exemption
• What the 100% service-connected disability rule means
• What surviving spouses need to know
• How income rules are reviewed
• What income is not counted for this program
• What documents should be prepared before applying
• How and when to file with the County Assessor
• What common mistakes can delay approval
• Where to go for follow-up help
Who Should Attend:
• Veterans with a VA disability rating
• Veterans rated 100% service-connected disabled
• Surviving spouses of disabled veterans
• Family members helping a veteran or surviving spouse apply
• VFW members and auxiliary members
• Veteran service officers and community advocates
• Anyone who needs help understanding the exemption process
What to Bring:
Bring copies if available. Do not bring original documents unless you are comfortable keeping them with you.
• VA disability letter showing percentage of disability
• Proof of Arizona residency
• Proof that the home is your primary residence
• Income documentation
• Death certificate, if applying as a surviving spouse
• Property address or parcel number
• Prior property tax bill or notice, if available
• Questions you want answered by the Assessor’s Office
Important Filing Information:
Applications are generally accepted from the first Monday in January through February 28. Applications submitted from March 1 through September 1 may require an exemption deadline waiver.
