Propaganda Never Died: How Edward Bernays Changed Your Habits
About this Event
📚Lecture: "Propaganda Never Died: How Edward Bernays Changed Your Habits"
🎤Speaker: Maria Sergeeva (PHd Researcher, Sociology & Anthropology)
This lecture traces the evolution of mass persuasion from its most explicit and dangerous forms to the subtle, normalized strategies we encounter every day.
We will explore how propaganda techniques were refined in the 20th century, how those same mechanisms became embedded in marketing, advertising, and media, why people believe they are independent thinkers even when they are not and how influence works best when it feels like your own idea.
Once you see these patterns, it becomes very difficult to unsee them.
Maria Sergeeva is a PhD researcher in sociology and anthropology based in Canada, studying how media, identity, and narratives shape the way people understand reality. Her work explores thinking patterns, emotional responses, and everyday decision-making in times of uncertainty. Maria combines academic insight with real-life examples to make complex psychological ideas accessible, relatable, and engaging.
