About this Event
The question of whether Orem should have its own school district has been raised multiple times over the past two decades. In fact, formal Feasibility Studies were commissioned in 2006, 2017 and 2022. All THREE studies determined it is feasible for Orem to have its own school district! The most recent study shows a new district is not only feasible - but would increase funding for Orem schools without raising taxes. With 15,000 students in public Orem schools, an Orem School District would be the 12th largest of 41 districts in the state.
The study found that since 2006 Orem taxpayers have paid more than $130 million in taxes to Alpine School District than have been used for Orem schools. While new schools are built in Lehi, Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain, Orem schools are being closed, earthquake safety is being neglected and class sizes are increasing.
Following the study, the Mayor and City Council voted to place Prop 2 on the ballot for Orem voters to decide on creating their own school district. By voting YES on Prop 2, Orem School District will have enough money to immediately fix NINE Orem schools that would currently collapse in an earthquake, pay teachers more money to improve outcomes, and hire more teachers to reduce class sizes. This would not require any more taxes than would already be going to Alpine, and future bonds would be smaller as Orem funds will no longer be spent in other cities.
At this meeting we will use the feasibility study and data provided by Alpine School District to demonstrate how voting Prop 2 is best for Orem. Vote yes on Prop 2! Learn more at OremCitySchoolDistrict.com.
