About this Event

This is a printmaking workshop during which you will learn the basics of relief printing with linoleum.

My name is Andy Winn and I am a professional printmaker with well over 10 years of experience printing with lino and lots of experience teaching the process to others.

The workshop will take place in my studio 'Proof of York' which is located on the city walls at Micklegate Bar. This is a unique opportunity to particpate in a workshop in one of York's most historic buildings. Micklegate Bar is full of history and stories (often gruesome) some of which I will share with you on the day.

We will start by looking through some examples of linocut work and experimenting with the tools to see the different types of cut we can make. It is then into drawing your ghoul (using some reference material if you need it). When the drawing is ready I will then talk you through ways of transfering the image onto the block and offer some advice about carving. When the block is ready it is on to printing by hand and using a press. Your finished artwork will be dry, packaged and ready to show off for halloween.
