About this Event
The workshop will focus on Provenance Research, the fifth issue of prompt:. Following an opening performance by artist sgp, the workshop will explore how research and ideas can be translated into different book formats. Drawing on the collaborative spirit and tactile materiality of past issues of prompt:, participants will work in pairs to make their own artist books responding to exercises provided by past contributors to prompt:. Supplies will be provided.
??????: is a collaborative artist publication directed by Nicole Kaack and Mira Dayal. Each issue brings together two artists, writers, or scholars who have not previously worked together and are chosen by Dayal and Kaack because of their mutual interests in a particular form of research or subject matter. Collaborators work together over a period of several months to produce a publication presented as an archive of correspondence or a draft for future work.
sgp is an antidisciplinary artist. With a strict ecology of materials and containers, her practice perpetually searches for collapse and connection—both literal and poetic. Sometimes she performs herself; sometimes she lets objects and institutions perform themselves. She received her BFA from Barnard College and went on to pursue her MFA from Hunter College, enrolling in the latter as a conceptual context to use debt as a medium while interrogating public/private partnerships.
