PROJECT: SAVE MUSICALITYIn a dance scene that is becoming more focused on difficult moves, fast combinations, and performance-driven dancing, we want to bring the focus back to what made us fall in love with dancing in the first place: the music.
PROJECT: SAVE MUSICALITY is a 4-week kizomba musicality course created by DJ David Ruela and Annika Lau in Rotterdam. This course is designed for dancers who want to understand the music on a deeper level and learn how to truly connect their movement to what they hear.
Throughout the course, we will explore different layers of music within urban kiz and related genres such as ghettozouk, tarraxinha, afrobeats, kizomba, semba, and more. Each week focuses on a different musical element:
Using playful and interactive exercises, we will help dancers isolate musical layers, improve musical interpretation, and create more natural flow in their dance. The classes combine the dancer’s perspective with the DJ’s ear, making musicality easier to understand and apply on the dance floor.
No matter your level, this course is for anyone who wants to stop “doing moves” and start dancing with the music.
“Combining the dancer’s eye with the DJ’s ear.”
