About this Event
Sisters of Service and Jenn Hassin invite you to Project Hambastegi, our latest collaborative art project. This in-person collaborative art project aims to bring together individuals passionate about using art to promote the power of community and mentorship in resettlement during the UN General Assembly this September!
Building on the foundation of Project Raha, our inaugural art endeavor from 2023, Project Hambastegi continues to explore the powerful connection between Afghan and U.S. women veterans. Project Raha was born from two art retreats in Texas sponsored generously by Command Purpose, where artist Jenn Hassin guided Afghan refugees and their mentors in transforming materials from their service, such as uniforms and hijabs, into unique paper and pulp. This innovative approach resulted in our first joint project, which deeply explored themes of strength and resilience.
The exhibit can be viewed at Affirmation Arts, 415 West 13th Street, 8th Floor, New York, New York 10014, September 23th-26th between 10-6pm. You can read more on here on our 2023 project: https://sistersofservice.org/project-raha/
If you want to meet the artists and participate in community art join us Tue, Sep 24, 2024 between 3-5 PM ready to be guided through creative works! We’d love volunteers to engage in hands-on art activities, connect with like-minded individuals, and contribute to a meaningful cause. Let's come together to celebrate art's highlighting US newcomers, female veterans, community sponsorship and more to unite us all. See you there!
