About this Event
Join us for Project ABLE’s Advocacy Day on Monday, April 13, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM in Room 222 at the Massachusetts State House, 24 Beacon Street, Boston, MA 02108.
Project ABLE is a state-wide coalition of HIV/AIDS/HCV service providers, advocates, and people living with HIV/AIDS/HCV, mobilizing to support funding for the HIV/AIDS/HCV line item and the Harm Reduction line items in the MA state budget.
This year, we are requesting a $1.2 million increase over the FY’26 appropriation of $31.8 million, bringing the HIV/AIDS/Infectious Disease Line Item (4512‑0103) to $33 million. The attached fact sheet highlights the areas of need that Project ABLE has identified for FY’27, which begins on July 1, 2026.
The event is organized by Sean Cahill ([email protected]) and Luchiano Montero ([email protected]). We will meet in Room 222 at 10 AM, and then you and your team will go off to meet with legislators and staff.
Please arrive promptly at 10:00 AM. Enter the front of the State House via the Hooker Entrance, go through security, take a left which leads you to the elevators down the hall on the left. Take the elevator to the 2nd floor and Room 222 is in the nearby hallway. There will be Team Leaders who will provide you with materials and guide you in your advocacy visits.
Agenda:
- We will meet as a group at 10AM in Room 222 at the Massachusetts State House.
- Group leaders will recieve informational packets (state house maps, assigned legislators, and adovcacy materials) assemble their groups, and review advocacy talking points.
- Groups will canvass their assigned legislators with information.
- Once general canvassing/literature drop is complete, partipants are encouraged to head to their legislator's office to make a direct, personal appeal. This is your chance to tell your story to your elected representative -- and it is the most effective method of advocacy!
- Don't know your legislator? Look them up using this link.
Other helpful tips:
- We will provide fact sheets and a letter detailing our legislative ask - you just need to bring your energy and personal story!
- Write down and practice a personalized message to your legislators.
- Wear something branded with your organization OR red!
- Parking around the State House is limited, and metered. The State House is a short walk from the Park Street stop on the MBTA Green Line.
- Reaching out to your legislator's office via phone or email is also an effective way to raise attention. You can let them know you're planning to stop into their office.
- If you are bringing participants from one of your programs, please indicate an estimated number when you RSVP.
