Progressions & Swallow Hill Bluegrass Band Showcase

Please join us in the Quinlan Cafe for Martin Gilmore's Fall 2025 Swallow Hill Bluegrass Band, Progressions: Bluegrass Guitar, and Progressions: Songwriting Showcase!

Students will be showing off all the things they have been working on during their classes this semester. The three featured groups will be Progressions: Bluegrass Guitar showing off their picking and strumming skills, Progressions: Songwriting showing off their melodic wordsmithing, and the Swallow Hill Bluegrass Band which will play a full set of music. Several alumni will come play as well, and Martin will play a few songs at the end. This event is open to the public and is free! If you'd like, guests are encouraged to bring a food item to share potluck-style.

is a four-month immersive learning experience, where students join a small cohort that meets multiple times a week and over 30-40 times throughout the program.

Comprehensive measures are taken by the instructor to see that the personal, professional, and artistic goals of the students are being met with regular instructor access as well as collaboration with guest instructors and industry professionals.

Students are challenged, but not overwhelmed. Progressions was designed for students to receive personalized help from the teacher at multiple weekly junctures. Curated practice plans are built for each individual student’s advancement.

Monthly performance opportunities as well as a release of a finished product demonstrating writing, recording, and/or teaching are part of Progressions.

is a five-piece ensemble that meets for sixteen weeks. The ensemble will consist of one of each of the following instruments: mandolin, banjo, guitar, fiddle/dobro, voice + instrument, and bass. This is a gigging ensemble that will play shows outside of normal class performances.
