Progress & Poverty & Affordable Housing

This program will begin with a guest speaker from Urban Environmentalists Illinois, part of the YIMBY movement working towards a future of cities and towns with abundant housing, work and play only a short bike or transit ride away; safe and independent mobility for all; lively and green public spaces; clean air and water; and affordability for all who wish to live there.

We'lI then continue with an introduction to Progress & Poverty. In his 1879 masterpiece, Henry George proposed to end poverty by recognizing a clear and logical distinction between private property and community property. America took a different path, which helps explain many of the problems we face today. Henry George School instructor Chuck Metalitz will present some of the key ideas and describe how today, more than ever, they point the way to a prosperous, free, equitable and fiscally sound community. He'll also explain the practical application of these principles, and how they can help solve problems of expensive housing, low wages, and lack of opportunity. There will of course be time for questions and discussion.

This event is free, but you must order a ticket so the security desk will admit you. The security desk may also require you to show government ID, but if that is a problem for you, contact us in advance and we will find a remedy.

A course is available for those seeking to better understand the concepts presented.
