In addition to the programs and activities listed below, the Paynetown Activity Center is open Thursday-Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Drop by to make a different craft each day, view our live snakes, check out the wall exhibits and taxidermy collection, the reference library, spend time at the puzzle table, or play in the kids' corner - or ask a question of the park naturalist.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 13
Be a Herptile Helper from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Watch for a naturalist roving the CAMPGROUND to learn why amphibians and reptiles sometimes linger on roadways – and how to move them in a safe manner (for both you and them!).
FRIDAY, AUGUST 14
Snake Chat from 2 to 2:30 p.m.

DROP BY to meet and touch one of our live education snakes and get your questions about snakes answered!
Help the Hellbenders from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Watch for a naturalist roving the CAMPGROUND… learn how you can help the population of Indiana’s only giant salamander, the Hellbender, and snag a “Help the Hellbenders” sticker!
SATURDAY, AUGUST 15
Indiana’s Bison from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Paynetown SRA, Campground Playground
DROP BY to explore the natural and cultural history of Indiana’s State Mammal, the American Bison, learn where you can see this animal in our state today and make a Bison tissue paper craft.
“Junk” Journaling Workshop at 4:00 p.m.
Paynetown SRA, Activity Center: Shelter
• This 60-min. workshop is most appropriate for adults and older children.
• Workshop fee is $2 per person. Space is limited to 12 people.
• Sign up in advance at the Activity Center on Fri. from 1 to 5 p.m. or Sat. from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Junk journaling is a creative and sustainable approach to creating a unique journal from personal memorabilia and found objects. The technique encourages self-expression, storytelling, and imagination, without fear of “messing up.” We’ll guide you in creating and decorating a starter journal and offer tips on how to expand and develop it.
Ladybug or Lady Beetle? from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

DROP BY to learn how to tell the difference between our native ladybugs and non-native lady beetles (the ones that start invading homes in the fall!) – and make a cute ladybug magnet.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 16
Camping with Care from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

DROP BY to learn how the principles of “Leave No Trace” apply to campgrounds and construct a popsicle-stick tent to remember your weekend camping trip to the lake.
