*** ENGLISH VERSION BELOW ***

The month of Kartik, also called the month of Damodara, is the most auspicious time of year for devotional practice.
The name Damodara recalls an amusement of Krishna as a child, recounted in the Srimad Bhagavatam: his mother Yashoda wanted to tie him with a rope around his waist, and he allowed himself to be tied up out of love for her. Throughout the month, devotees offer a ghee lamp to Yashoda and Damodara and chant the Damodarashtakam, eight prayers that celebrate this occasion.
For this opening evening, everyone will be able to offer their own lamp during the arati, by gently twirling it in front of the altar during the chant. If you have never offered a lamp before, someone will show you how.
Evening's schedule:
5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Kirtan
5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.: Arati, offering of ghee lamps and singing of the Damodarashtakam
6:00 PM to 6:30 PM: Class on the entertainments of Damodara, taken from the Srimad Bhagavatam
6:30 pm: Prasadam (vegetarian meal offered to Krishna): a moment of exchange, sharing and connection around the table.
The activity is free, but a full meal prepared by Govinda's is available on-site for $20 (main course, soup, salad, and dessert). Chai is free for all participants.
Open to everyone, whether you've been following Kartik Month for years or this is your first visit. Entry is through Govinda's restaurant. No need to bring anything: lamps are provided.
Reservations are not required, but they help us plan the number of lamps and the amount of prasadam needed. Register by clicking the "Register" button, ideally before Wednesday, October 21st.
We look forward to welcoming you to the centre.
