PROG RHINO 2 is an extended event starting at 4pm and continuing until 10.30pm at The Greystones in Sheffield on Sunday 16th February 2025. It features 4 Prog / alternative actsEBB, DORIS BRENDEL, THE TIRITH AND THE BOOK OF REVELATIONS
EBB were a band, the Erin Bennett Band, who played pop-rock. But they kept straying off into Prog Rock and ruining it. So they finally listened to their own voices and went full Prog. You couldn’t get a happier bunch of puppies! The focal point is wild-haired singer-guitarist Erin Bennett, exuding an edgy, dynamic charisma, her voice laser like in its direction and clarity. Flanking her is the interpretive, flowing movement of backing singer Kitty Biscuits. With a melting pot of influences EBB are a genre-defying group of five women and one guy on a mission. They are an emotional gig experience that will lift you out of your daily life and blast you into the stratosphere. Voted Prog Magazine’s Best New Band 2023.
DORIS BRENDEL is largely recognised as one of the most innovative alternative artists of the last decade encompassing alternative and progressive rock, pop, blues, Celtic, singer-songwriter and world influences and appealing to the ‘intelligent alternative music fan’.
With her unique and distinctive husky voice she stands out in a league of her own. Along with producer Lee Dunham, Brendel creates Alternative Rock landscapes impossible to categorise. Think Janice Joplin and Skunk Ananse getting down with the Beatles, Muse and Dream Theatre. Doris and Lee will play this event as an acoustic duo.
THE TIRITH are the hosts of Prog Rhino 2. They are a genuine Prog band from the 70s, who reformed in 2010 to fulfil the dream, releasing their debut album “Tales from the Tower” to critical acclaim in 2015. The band play an original brand of guitar-based Prog supplemented by keyboards. Their influences are very wide, centred on the songs of Tim Cox and Richard Cory, they can be Prog Metal one moment and folk rock the next, with many styles between and alongside. Think Rush meets King Crimson, with a bit of Caravan thrown in for good measure. Following on from playing at the Nene Valley Rock Festival in Sept 2024, they will be debuting some new material alongside a few classics from their 3 previous albums.
THE BOOK OF REVELATIONS offer an intoxicating combination of Rock, Orchestral and Folk music with its lyricism, poetry and grandiloquence, convoluted with complex rhythms and quirky time signatures plus lyrical themes from Roman and Greek mythology told with a 21st Century perspective. The Book of Revelations is the musical vehicle for the multi-instrumentalist and composer, Gerard Freeman, who owes a debt of gratitude to one of the greatest proponents of Prog Rock, namely GENESIS. With this influence , they have crafted works of rich texture, complexity and humour. Now with 2 EPs and an album, The Plumes of Enceladus, under their belt they move forward into 2025.
