What is the profit first method?

Profit First is a system from small business finance expert Mike Michalowicz.

Profit First is based on the idea that we need to allocate our income and prioritize our profit before paying any of our expenses.

Typically, we take our income, subtract our expenses, and call the leftover profit (if we’re lucky enough to have any).

Income - Expenses = Profit

Let me show you how we can flip the script. We take our income, prioritize a percentage for profit, and take whatever’s left and use that to pay our expenses. If there’s not enough, we have too many expenses and need to make cuts. With the right commitment, this system guarantees profit.
