"Professional Practices for Artists: How to Market your Craft and Refine your Vision" with Samantha Metzner.
This 90 minute workshop will include breaking down the basics of professional practices for artists. We will go over how to write an artist statement, artist bio, the ins and outs of applying to juried shows, exhibitions and residencies, and introduce how to properly photograph/scan your work. Time will be spent workshopping the above topics as well as peer reviewing each other's work. Come prepared with a computer, tablet or pen and pencil to write with. The overall goal is to walk away with more confidence showcasing and/or selling your work, building the basics of a ready to submit portfolio and refining personal goals as an artist.
Class date/time: 1/8/25 from 5:30-7:00PM
Class size/age: Max 15 students, age 16+
Class cost: $20 for the single session.

About the Instructor:
Samantha is an artist and fine art photographer currently based in Moab, UT. She specializes in historic and alternative printing processes as well as portraits and is adept at working across photographic mediums, including film and digital.
Samantha received her Bachelors of Art in Photography from Guilford College in 2015 and has since been featured in various publications and juried shows such as Lenscratch and Alternative Processes Women’s History Month. Most recently, she created a large mixed media portrait installation for the 2023/2024 Moab Public Arts Grant. She also completed a 7 month artist residency with the Southeast Utah group of parks including Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Hovenweep, and Natural Bridges National Monuments in 2022.
