Whichever one of the above you best identify with, Purple Lotus Doulas’ Labor/Birth Doula Training will equip you with the confidence and broad knowledge base from which to begin or expand your professional services.
This is not just a training about the basics about labor, birth and doula support, but comprehensive information about different kinds of birth support for all types of births, and feeding support, and also adds valuable work skills of self-reflection and emphasizes the importance of personal growth, self-care communication tools, how to think about building your ideal business model, and understanding what doula life realistically looks like.
Purple Lotus Doulas has over 30 years of combined professional experience in professional doula support, childbirth education and feeding support and is offering this unique, transformative training experience! Our labor/birth doula training will give you the education, tools, and confidence necessary to lay the foundation to work as a labor/birth doula, enhance your current doula work, OR enhance your professional work in a complementary field.
What makes our doula training different from others? Purple Lotus Doulas has provided full spectrum, holistic services for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum in the St. Louis and surrounding areas since 2010. We are respected by local healthcare providers, colleagues, and our clients alike and while we maintain professionalism in everything we do, we also march to the beat of our own drums. While we do some things in a more conventional manner, we have been thinking outside the box since Purple Lotus Doulas’ was in its infancy. We believe our innovative and ever-evolving approach and perspective, along with our years of experience, will give you a training experience like no other!
"What about after the training?" Support is crucial to both new and seasoned doulas! The average doula burns out in 2 years or less. Because we want to see you succeed, included in the cost of our training are 2 types of support after you've completed the training weekend:
1. A private Facebook group only for previous training participants, where you'll get continuing education by way of regular Facebook live educational videos, discussion topics, and more, plus a private place to get support/feedback/ideas/encouragement and more as you're beginning your work as a doula.
2. Quarterly Meet-ups in St. Louis, where you'll have the opportunity to gather together with other previous training partcipants for continuing education, support, connection, and FUN!
“What about Certification?” Many people are surprised to find out that the U.S. does not regulate labor/birth doula work and, therefore, there is no requirement that a doula must be certified in order to work independently. There are differing opinions on the topic of doula certification and the question of whether or not doulas should be regulated by a governing body. While Purple Lotus Doulas’ Professional Labor/Birth Doula training does not provide certification, we believe it will provide you with the skills necessary to begin, or enhance, your work as a doula. One of our segments during the training will educate you on all your options for pursuing professional work, explore the issues surrounding the topic of doula certification, and discuss the current climate in the U.S. for non-medical birth professionals.
