The purpose of this meeting is to obtain the views of citizens, public agencies, and other interested parties for an application for the Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing (PRO Housing) Grant. The PRO Housing Grant is offered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and supports communities who are actively taking steps to remove barriers to affordable housing.
Omaha’s application is seeking support to accomplish three main goals:
● Provide an expanded housing rehabilitation loan program to better preserve existing affordable housing units.
● Support the construction of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) with an ADU pilot program. Omaha’s code has been recently revised to allow for ADUs in most residential zoning districts.
● Revise the residential zoning code to increase affordable housing production.
The Public Hearing will be formatted as a public meeting and conversation, which will include a brief presentation on the application, and time for attendees to ask questions or provide comments to city staff. The meeting will be held at the South Omaha Public Library, at 2808 Q St. Omaha, NE 68107. The main entrance, which is an accessible entrance, is located on the west side of the library.
Interpreters for Spanish and American Sign Language will be available. Individuals requiring any additional accommodations, please contact Grant Daily at the City of Omaha Planning Department, 402-444-5150 ext. 2012, [email protected] by September 11, 2024.
A summary document, providing a brief overview of the draft application, will be posted at planninghcd.cityofomaha.org under the “News and Updates” section. Summary documents will be available in English and Spanish. A full draft document will be available at the meeting and at the above website on September 18.
The City of Omaha Planning Department will receive comments about the PRO Housing Grant application from September 18 through October 4, 2024. Comments should be sent to [email protected] or by mail:
