On Saturday 7th February, Heritage Malta is inviting its esteemed members to a unique morning with an exclusive tour of the exquisite Teatru Manoel, Malta’s National Theatre, in the heart of Valletta, from 10:30am to 11:30am.Members will discover the story behind one of Europe’s oldest working theatres, where centuries of music, drama and applause still echo from gilded balconies. Affectionately known as “Il-Manoel” by locals, this Baroque jewel was built in just 10 months in 1731 and remains one of the finest examples of 18th-century theatre architecture in Europe.
Conceived by Grand Master António Manoel de Vilhena to offer “honest entertainment for the people” – a mission still inscribed above its entrance – the theatre has been a vibrant stage for artistic expression for nearly three centuries.
This animated tour, presented in collaboration with Grand Tour Malta, will be led by artist and licensed guide Jeremy Grech, in character as Monsieur Baroque, whose dynamic storytelling and deep passion for Maltese history bring the theatre’s layered past vividly to life.
Tickets cost €16 – a special discounted rate for Heritage Malta members – and are available online and from all Heritage Malta museums and sites.
