A practical workshop to assess privacy risks in AI projects, develop mitigations, and create a clear PIA decision briefing for stakeholders.
About this Event

A Privacy Impact Assessment can feel complicated when you are dealing with AI, unfamiliar data flows, and multiple stakeholders. The challenge is not only identifying privacy risks, but knowing how to assess them, develop practical mitigations, and present clear recommendations to decision-makers.

This practical workshop gives you a structured, hands-on way to work through a Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) for an AI project. Using a fictional or approved case, you will move from initial screening through to risk analysis, consultation, mitigation, and decision briefing.

Rather than focusing on theory alone, you will build a practical set of PIA resources that you can adapt and use for future AI initiatives.

Who this is for

This session is built for professionals involved in privacy, risk, governance, projects, and AI implementation:

  • Privacy and risk practitioners
  • Project and programme professionals
  • Data governance and compliance teams
  • AI governance and assurance practitioners
  • Legal, policy, and information management professionals

No previous PIA experience is required.

What we will do together
  • Identify when a PIA is required: Learn how to recognise privacy assessment triggers in AI projects, including changes that introduce new risks during implementation.
  • Map personal information flows: Trace how personal information is collected, processed, stored, accessed, and shared across an AI project.
  • Assess and prioritise risk: Complete threshold screening and use a structured risk grid to identify key privacy concerns and assess their significance.
  • Plan consultation: Identify relevant stakeholders and determine what input is needed, when it should happen, and how it should inform the assessment.
  • Develop practical mitigations: Turn privacy risks into clear actions and controls that project and operational teams can realistically implement.
  • Prepare the decision briefing: Summarise the assessment, key risks, mitigations, and recommendations into a concise briefing for decision-makers.

What you will take home
  • A completed draft PIA workbook
  • A practical privacy risk grid
  • A mitigation register
  • A concise PIA decision briefing
  • A repeatable workflow you can apply to future AI projects

Good to know

Please bring your laptop. You can work with a fictional or approved case, so there is no need to bring sensitive personal information. No prior PIA experience is required. This session provides general information current at the date of delivery and does not constitute legal advice.
