About this Event

Learn the ins-and-outs of linocut printmaking with artists Joe Galarza and Nuri Amanatullah in this three-day workshop. This workshop is free and all materials will be provided to each participant. Participants must be at least 12 years old to register.

By registering for this event, you agree that you are at least 12 years of age (with parents permission) and will be able to attend all three sessions scheduled for Thursday, November 18th; Saturday, November 20th; and Sunday, November 21st. NOTE: A workshop will NOT be held on Friday, November 19th.

November 18:
Introduction and Conceptualization

Participants will join artists Joe Galarza and Nuri Amanatullah for a fast-paced introduction to the essentials of linocut printmaking. Joe and Nuri will lead participants through a brief history of printmaking and its unique connection to various social movements. From there, participants will be challenged to brainstorm concepts for their own prints – both at the individual and community levels. Light refreshments will be provided for all registered participants.

November 20:
Technique and Production

Once participants have finalized their printmaking concepts, artists Joe and Nuri will introduce the fundamentals of linocut production techniques. Participants will work alongside one another to carve their designs into the linoleum, collaborate with their fellow participants, and ready their blocks for the printing process. Light refreshments will be provided for all registered participants.

November 21:
Printing

Now that participants have completed carving their designs, it’s printmaking time! Participants will work with Joe and Nuri to realize their prints on paper, totes, bandanas, and other materials to take home. Individual prints will be produced as well as a large community print that commemorates the workshop. Light refreshments will be provided for all registered participants.
