About this Event

Join author and former Artist-in-Residence Madge Evers (2022-2023) to celebrate the release of Printing With the Sun: Capturing the Beauty of Nature With Cyanotypes. Madge will talk about her book, share her own history with the cyanotype process, and introduce its 19th-century origins. She will then conduct a live demonstration of how the process works. Finally, Madge will also provide an opportunity for attendees to enjoy a simple hands-on activity, creating a cyanotype bookmark to take home.

Cyanotypes are one of the oldest photographic printing processes in the history of photography. The distinctive feature of the print is its shade of cyan blue, which results from its exposure to ultraviolet light.

Cyanotypes were first introduced by the astronomer, scientist, and botanist John Herschel in 1841. The cyanotype process was later used by botanist Anna Atkins Atkins to make the first ever photographic book in 1843.

Check in for this event will be in Story Chapel.

Event capacity limited to 20 participants.
