Celebrate Worldwide Print Day in May with Lee A. Monts at City Art by printing from a commercial gel plate. Participants will be loaned a 6” x 6” brand name gel plate and a 6” brayer for use during the workshop. Prints will be created using Golden Artist Colors’ OPEN acrylic paints loaded onto the gel plate using a brayer. OPEN acrylics are slightly softer than heavy body acrylics and have an extended drying period that is perfect for this technique. Simple botanical monoprints using real leaves will first be taught as an introduction to printing. A layered monoprinting technique will then be taught using stencils and a variety of textured items. An ability to think in reverse is helpful in learning the workshop techniques! Gel plate printing is a lot of fun, and this form of printing is a great way to create papers for collage.
