Herons, shorebirds, raptors, and songbirds are migrating through the area now, and Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge is a wonderful place to see it happen! Prime Hook is situated just north of Lewes on the Delaware Bay. Explore beaches, forests, tidal marshes, freshwater wetlands, and upland fields to see a wide variety of migrating and breeding birds as well as wildflowers, insects, and maybe a few reptiles and amphibians. Visit Slaughter Beach to look out over Delaware Bay for some birds normally found in the ocean in winter.

Celebrating 60 years! Delaware Nature Society turns 60 this year, and we’re marking the occasion with a yearlong commemoration, a time to not only remember our history but also to bring our mission more sharply into focus. Since our founding in 1964, many staff and thousands of volunteers have put untold hours into that mission. Stay tuned for events and programming all year long.
