Primary Languages: Vocabulary in Action!
About this Event
Vocabulary is one of the three pillars identified by Ofsted in the Languages Subject Review (June 2021). The Ofsted inspection handbook describes progress, in any subject, as knowing more and remembering more.
Commercial resources can rely heavily on slides and worksheets. During this half-day course, we will explore a range of practical, active learning strategies to introduce and practise vocabulary to support children to know and remember more. We will consider how to weave in phonics and grammar so that learners build strong foundations to build upon and therefore, are able to do more.
This course is ideal for teachers, HLTAs, ECTs and any practitioners delivering primary languages. Examples will be provided in French and Spanish, and can be adapted to other languages.
What to expect?
Participants will:
- consider current research around vocabulary learning in primary languages;
- gain a range of practical, active learning strategies for effective vocabulary learning and teaching;
- network and share ideas with like-minded colleagues;
- receive a handout with details of the strategies explored.
