The first ever LGBTQ+ centered take back the night protest against sexual assault and violence: Pride began as a protest, and this Pride, we demand space for LGBTQ+ survivors. We will join together and protest against the sexual assault and violence we experience.
Self identifying LGBTQ+ Folks who want to speak out about their experiences of sexual assault and violence can register here: https://forms.office.com/r/NPJd2N13yA
We have anonymous virtual and in person opportunities and advocates who can provide support and resources.

The Sexual Assault Crisis Service, a program of the YWCA New Britain will be holding space specifically centered around the experiences of individuals self identifying in the LGBTQ+ community who are survivors of sexual violence.
Take back the night and speak out events have a long history as spaces to reclaim the night and speak out about sexual violence in a space of validation and affirming support. These events allow survivors to share their experiences of sexual violence, trauma, hope, and resilience in their own words and with the honesty they often do not get afforded. However, while more recent events have begun to be more inclusive, there has not been a space specifically for the LGBTQ+ community to address the intersectional issue of sexual violence and the impacts it has on us.
We will come together at the YWCA in New Britain (19 Franklin Square, New Britain, Ct) to reclaim our space in a show of prideful survivorship and solidarity. As we wait for the sun to set, we will decorate luminaries, build community, and share space, resources, and information. As the sun sets, LGBTQ+ survivors will have the space to speak out in ways that fit their survivor journey, share anonymously, or show up for other survivors to speak out in their way*.
We ask that speakers slots be reserved for those who self identify within the LGBTQ+ community to ensure the integrity and safety of this Pride specific event. We welcome all in the community (LGBTQ+ and not) who want to support and center LGBTQ+ survivors of sexual violence to attend the event, bring signs of protest against violence + support, and decorate luminaries.

* Survivors can 'speak out' at the event by sharing their experience or journey through word or other verbal expression (poetry, song, etc.) or submit written testimony or quotes (can also be done anonymously). We encourage survivors who want to participate in the speak out portion to register for this portion of the event here https://forms.office.com/r/NPJd2N13yA.
