About this Event
At Forte, we know you want to celebrate Pride this year and every year with a glorious musical celebration of how far we’ve come as a community, together.
To do that, you’re going to need the experience of a Pride concert that offers some of the most famous linkages of our history and songs, all delivered in a staged show by one of Canada’s leading LGBTQ+ choruses: Forte – Toronto’s Gay Men’s Chorus.
Problem is, we are all acutely aware, this year above other recent years, of the Prejudices that are out there, and which have come to the fore: “don’t say gay” approaches to the education curriculum, active, legislated discrimination against our brothers and sisters in the trans community, and those who present Drag Story Hours, which educate and entertain our kids in diversity and inclusion, being harassed, met with protests and shut down.
At Forte, this year, we want not only to acknowledge the paths trodden by those before us, but also to present the reality of the obstacles we face here and now, and to offer a message that our true Pride comes from overcoming them, together.
That’s why we are combining songs of celebrating Pride and conquering Prejudice in the form of an onstage Drag Story Hour, with you as that audience and various Forte Chorus members fulfilling roles of drag queen storytellers and those who have specific stories of overcoming barriers and discrimination to tell.
Our programming will mix some of the most uplifting and popular numbers in Forte’s repertoire with songs about conquering the prejudices that so much of society throws in our way, and we’ll conclude with a rousing finale to send us all out into the night and our month full of Pride.
We can’t wait to see you there!
