About this Event
With his work held in 150 museums worldwide, Barry Moser stands among the greatest illustrators and wood engravers of our time. Exorcising Demons delves into the forces of Good and Evil that have haunted and driven his life and art—from his beginnings in the South to his journey north. Packed with his remarkable engravings, the film is a feast for the eyes and mind. Equally captivating are its unfiltered, intimate visits with Moser, whom Image Journalcalls “the most honest-to-God God-haunted soul we’ve seen in a long time.”
Exorcising Demons is the first in a trilogy about Moser. Part two will concentrate on “the other” and will feature Moser’s unforgettable evocations of the fantastic and the nightmarish.
Ralph Hammann has spent most of his life as a theater director, designer, actor, critic and educator (of an award-winning drama program). In cinema, he has been a professional critic and curated an annual film series at the Berkshire Museum. He directed his adaptation of “The Trojan Women” at the Berkshire Theatre Festival where he also directed a series of classic musicals and a tribute to the 2nd US Poet Laureate, Richard Wilbur. For Film Odysseys, he directed two documentaries about Wilbur. “Richard Wilbur and the Things of This World” (available at film-odysseys.com) is an in-depth study of Wilbur that runs over nine hours. An abridged version of that film, “Richard Wilbur — Keeping the Difficult Balance,” has been accepted in and won awards in film festivals in the US and Europe. For the past six years Hammann has been collaborating with Barry Moser for a film trilogy about the world-renowned artist’s life and works.
