We've loved meeting our new neighbors and our preview pop-up shops have been so much fun that we're extending it indefinitely on select weekends until construction begins and "popping" up again this Sunday! We've still got a lot of work and construction to do before we can officially open our doors with our full concept but we'd love to give you a little "taste" of Vicini pastaria, cafe, & market with a continuation of our preview pop-up shop on select weekends while we wait for our permits to be able to begin construction. Named after the Italian word for "neighbors", Vicini offers artisan scratch-made pasta, sauces, select Italian specialties, and gluten-free desserts hand-crafted from natural, local, and imported Italian ingredients, currently available to order online for local delivery and at local farmers markets and small boutique specialty food markets. Opening later this year or early next year (fingers crossed!) on Park Ave. in Lafayette Square, the brick-and-mortar location of Vicini will be the realization of a decade's long dream of mine, ever since I returned from my time living and working in Tuscany in 2011.
Vicini will ultimately be a small Italian neighborhood pastaria, cafe, and market with an eclectic variety of offerings and a little something for everyone. The focus will be on house-made fresh pasta sold raw to cook at home, along with some grab-n-go prepared foods perfect for a picnic in Lafayette Park, daily dine-in counter-service lunch, a local and imported Italian specialty food market, a small curated selection of European-inspired antiques, furnishings, home decor, and kitchenwares, and last but not least, family-style pop-up dinners, and cooking classes.
Vicini will strive to create a genuine Italian experience where all who walk through the doors are welcomed as neighbors, friends, or family and invited to select some handmade pasta, meatballs, or local artisan products from the market to enjoy at home, or to gather around our table to share a prosciutto panino, a simple plate of hand-rolled pici pasta, or communal family-style feasts; all lovingly hand-crafted with the utmost care and rustic simplicity characteristic of authentic Italian cuisine.
