The Art of Sorting
Overwhelmed with news, I turned to sorting. Sorting the real from the fake. Sorting the impactful from the sensational and silly. Sorting the life/livelihood threats from the loud bluster.
I select a story. I draw an image. I write what I know. An hour of quiet work to focus on and process an international, national, local, personal event. Each day. Some small and personal. Some large and world-changing. All need my attenton. All need me to care, to note and remember.
The world moves fast. The news bombards us. Drawing and writing grounds me. Gives me a moment of control. Helps me to remember. To care. To return again and again to the truly important.
The Art of Grannying
Being a Grandmother is part of my life. Maybe the most important part. My children's book creates a space to celebrate and document the relationship I am lucky to have. To treasure the special moments and opportunities shared. Each is handcrafted. Let me know if you are interested in one.
The Art of Play
Play offers learning. Toys often define what the child learns. I played with a baby doll as a child. I learned to bea caretaker. To nurture. My brothers had guns and army men.
Dolls from my childhood fascinate me. Their direct gaze. Their weight and size. My children and grandchildren find them creepy and disturbing. But cannot ignore them.
Combining the dolls with other toys/objects creates a tension. A dynamic that suggests more about the doll and more about the objects/toys. I see the juxtaposition through a political lens. What about you?
