About this Event

Following last year’s “The Lion and the Cobra” listening party, Shrem continues the newly established tradition of dedicating its July edition of “Press Play” to the inimitable Sinéad O’Connor. While the event will commemorate, explore and celebrate the extraordinary career and legacy of the Irish singer-songwriter, it will focus in particular on her breakthrough global phenomenon and second studio album, “I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got”.

This Grammy-winning record quickly became one of the most iconic albums of the 1990’s, propelled by O’Connor’s most famous single, the Prince-penned “Nothing Compares 2 U”, which served as its lead single. The critically acclaimed LP featured many of the artist’s most memorable and beloved songs, including “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, “Three Babies”, “I Am Stretched on Your Grave” and “The Last Day of Our Acquaintance”.

“I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got” has stood the test of time as a raw, emotional and fearless recording, blending rock and folk soundscapes with echoes of traditional Irish music and even subtle hip-hop influences. It remains a bold, uncompromising and daring artistic statement - a rare instance of an alternative and fiercely independent body of work achieving enormous commercial success.

The album will be played loud, in its entirety, on the HiFi Hatchett Sound System for a truly immersive listening experience. The night will also feature a two-part, hand-curated vinyl set crafted exclusively for this event, spanning Sinéad’s vibrant, eclectic and unparalleled catalogue, with a particular focus on her first four musical eras.

Expect a carefully woven selection of beloved tracks alongside rare B-sides, deep cuts, unexpected and sometimes overlooked collaborations, and reimagined moments - an all-encompassing homage to one of Ireland’s most singular, timeless and unapologetically authentic artists.

With just 40 tickets available due to the intimate nature of the space, early booking is highly recommended.
