About this Event

This conference approaches the subject of the conservation of ritual objects from a professional and practical perspective, in addition, proposes the decolonizing of current conservation theory considering the magic (sacredness) and spirituality possessed by ritual objects.

Within European conservation theory, aesthetics and functionality are valued, leaving the social life of the object in the background, including the magic that is imbued from ritual practice and the materials involved in them. Many materials used in rituals can become a source of deterioration as they are mostly organic. Tatiana will present a portion of her pedagogy highlighting the necessity to generate theories and own reflections that can allow both the conservation of the object, as well as the magic and its relationship with its physical universe.
