AN INTRODUCTION TO PRESERVING - Water Bathing, Fowlers and More
Preserving is a great foundation for a sustainable lifestyle, allowing you to use produce from your own (or family and friends’) gardens, process it, store it, and use it later on. I love that I have fruit ready to serve simply on its own, or with yoghurt, custard or ice cream. I also use the fruit to make cakes, tarts, pies and desserts, and in some cases to accompany a cheese platter!
In this session we will discuss various methods of preserving, including, water bathing, pickling and pressure canning. We will also talk about the the do’s and don'ts of preserving, and you will prepare fruit and fill a jar or two which will be processed for you to take home. You will be amazed at how rewarding the process is, and also, how simple it is. Each participant will be provided with the ingredients, instructions and guidance as they prepare a jar of fruit to be processed, as well as a jar of fruit pickle, having the opportunity to ask questions as you do so.
Please note that while I will have my pressure canner with me on the day, we won't be using it during this session.

🥄Preserved Seasonal Fruit
🥄Pickled Pears
🥄Crostini with Spiced Quinces, Prosciutto & Goats Cheese
🥄Salad of Pickled Pears, Pork Fillet & Rocket
🥄My mum's baked custard served with preserved fruit.
What you will take home:
🥄Notes on preserving produce at home, and recipes for the recipes made on the day
🥄A jar of each of the preserves prepared on the day.
🥄Containers will be provided so that participants can take home any leftovers to share with family and/or friends.
(All food will be gluten free)
Session Duration: Approximately 4 hours.
