Mount Olivet is the largest cemetery in Detroit, consecrated in 1888 and home to stately oaks and many large family mausoleums. As the burial spot of choice for many generations of families on Detroit’s east side, Mount Olivet is a tranquil resting place and a significant monument to nearly one and a half centuries of Detroit history. Hear stories about the famous and the infamous, from Titanic survivors to Hollywood actors, from bootleggers to Mafia bosses!
This Saturday tour starts at 2pm. Meet near the cemetery office inside the front gates off Van Dyke and E. McNichols. Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the tour, which runs about two hours. Parking is available inside the cemetery. This is a walking tour; the terrain is often hilly and uneven, so wear sensible shoes and dress for the weather. All tours take place rain or shine. No professional photography or tripods, please.
Walk-up tickets will NOT be available for these tours. You must purchase your tickets online…these tours WILL sell out! Advance ticket purchases are available until 6pm the Friday before the tour. Tickets may be refunded up to 7 days prior to the date of a tour; after that, tickets are not refundable.
